Every product recommendation on GlowAF is the result of a structured research and evaluation process. Here is exactly how we arrive at our rankings.
Step 1 · Product Selection
We identify products through:
- Google search volume data · what Indian users are actively searching for
- Bestseller lists on Amazon India, Nykaa, and Flipkart
- Dermatologist recommendations in Indian skincare communities
- Brand launches and formulation updates
- Reader suggestions via our contact form
We only include products that are available in India on at least one major platform (Amazon, Nykaa, Flipkart, or brand direct).
Step 2 · Ingredient Analysis
This is the core of every review. For each product, we:
- Read the full INCI ingredient list from the product page or packaging
- Evaluate key active ingredients against published peer-reviewed research
- Check ingredient concentrations where disclosed
- Identify potential irritants, allergens, or problematic ingredients for Indian skin types
- Assess formula stability (e.g. whether Vitamin C form is stable enough to be effective)
- Check for cruelty-free and vegan status where relevant
Step 3 · User Review Analysis
We analyse verified purchaser reviews from:
- Amazon India (minimum 50 verified reviews required for inclusion)
- Nykaa (verified purchase reviews)
- Flipkart (verified purchase reviews)
- Brand websites where available
We look for patterns in complaints (e.g. consistent reports of irritation, packaging issues, or formulation problems) and consistent praise. We discount one-off extreme reviews in both directions.
Step 4 · Value Assessment
We evaluate value across three price tiers:
- Budget · Under ₹400
- Mid-range · ₹400 to ₹900
- Premium · Above ₹900
A premium product must demonstrably outperform budget alternatives to justify its price. We penalise products that charge a premium for branding alone.
Step 5 · Indian Context Check
This step is unique to GlowAF. We specifically evaluate how well each product suits:
- Indian skin tones · e.g. does this sunscreen leave a white cast on medium-to-deep Indian skin tones?
- Indian climate · is this moisturiser appropriate for humid South Indian weather or dry North Indian winters?
- Indian water quality · hard water affects how cleansers and conditioners perform
- Indian budget realities · we always include at least one under-₹500 option per category
Our Rating System
Each product is ranked relative to others in its category. Our top pick ("Best Overall") is the product we would personally recommend to most people in that category, balancing efficacy, safety, value, and availability.
- Best Overall · The one pick for most people
- Best Budget · Best performance under ₹400
- Best for [Skin Type] · Strongest option for a specific concern
- Best Premium · Worth paying more for specific results
- Best Value · Good performance at a fair price
What We Do Not Do
- We do not accept free products in exchange for positive reviews
- We do not allow brands to see reviews before publication
- We do not rank products based on affiliate commission rates
- We do not remove negative reviews because a brand complained
Update Frequency
We review and update each guide at minimum every 6 months, or whenever a significant product is launched, discontinued, or reformulated. The "Last Updated" date on each page reflects the most recent review.
